LONDON — The 1980 Ferrari Pinin concept is expected to fetch upwards of $738,000 when it crosses the auction block on October 26 in London.
Ferrari's first concept sedan never made it into production because the automaker "wasn't about to spend its precious resources on the first four-door Ferrari," said RM Auctions in a statement.
The Ferrari Pinin concept was featured at the 1980 Los Angeles Auto Show and other venues.
The car is equipped with a 360-horsepower 5.0-liter V12 engine.
"Aside from the four-door body style, one of the most notable features of the car was the very low height of the hood," said RM Auctions. "Strikingly, the windows were tinted and mounted flush to hide the A- and B-pillars, giving the impression of a single piece of glass wrapping all the way around from C-pillar to C-pillar."
The cabin was outfitted with Connolly leather. Rear-seat passengers got a second radio to be used with headphones.
The car was named in honor of Battista "Pinin" Farina, founder of the legendary design house.
Inside Line says: Bet this rare Ferrari edges close to the $1 million mark.

That is one of the most bland looking cars I have ever seen.

It's right up there with the Aston Martin Lagonda.
And as far as I can remember, there was also a Lamborghini Minivan concept back in the late 80's.
Imagine if Ferrari gave this thing the green light for production.
I'd love to have a modern iteration of this thing.

FERRARI SHOULD CONSIDER BUILDING THE MODERN VERSION OF THIS CAR, ALL ITS COMPETITORS WILL HAVE 4 DOOR COUPES SO WHY NOT BUILD ONE NOW.

Looks like the 400 and the Lagonda got together to produce this.

Reminds me of the Aston Martin Lagonda, if I'm not mixing up my old, strange, 4-door cars.
