BEIJING — Dongfeng Motor, one of China's largest vehicle manufacturers, is expanding its Fengshen brand with the addition of the new H30 Cross wagon and the S30 BSG hybrid sedan. The new models will be at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show.
Partnered in China with such overseas brands as Honda, Kia, Nissan and PSA Peugeot Citroen, DFM has created an Outback-like version of the H30, with more rugged styling cues, including redesigned front bumper, grille and foglamps, plus a luggage rack. Power comes from a 114-horsepower DOHC 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, available with either manual or automatic gearboxes. Prices will start at under $14,000.
The S30 BSG sedan features a belt-starter-generator hybrid system with idle stop/start. DFM claims a fuel-economy improvement of 6-11 percent. Production is slated to start later this year. The new hybrid is among several "new energy" models on the Dongfeng stand, which is showcasing the ECS, Tai and I-car concepts.
Dongfeng also has face-lifted its Fengxing Jingyi (Joyear) compact people mover. The Mazda 5-like crossover is priced from under $12,000.
Inside Line says: DFM has put far more energy into its joint ventures with foreign partners than in building its own brand in China. The results speak for themselves. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Dongfeng mainly produce commercial vehicles.. they design and manufacture engines which the one has 5 liter's displacement or above... Dongfeng should expande their product sale team into europe and latin america and compete with Mercedes Benz... obviously, dongfeng trucks are much more cheaper compare to the one made by europeans.

You are exactly right. Dongfeng is a huge group, but it had entirely been focused on joint ventures until recently. When it comes to developing passenger cars, they are just beginning, and it does show in their ugly designs. Most of the other Chinese carmakers, that were indeed displaying ugly cars 5+ years ago, are now impressing.
