- Chrysler will introduce 17 new or redesigned models over the next two years.
- A 2012 Dodge Viper is included in that count.
- Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne made that announcement at a Chrysler dealer meeting.
ORLANDO, Florida — There will be a new Dodge Viper after all.
At a meeting here of Chrysler's U.S. dealers, CEO Sergio Marchionne, who also heads Italian automaker Fiat, said Chrysler will introduce 17 new or redesigned models over the next two years, including a replacement for the Dodge Viper, which was phased out of production this summer.
The next-generation Viper is due in 2012, dealers were told.
Until the dealer meeting this week, Chrysler had dropped numerous hints about a possible Viper successor but hedged on dates and details.
According to The Wall Street Journal, dealers "gasped and applauded" when Marchionne unveiled a "sleek redesign" of the Viper.
The last 2010 Viper rolled off the assembly line in Detroit in early July.

I'm just so happy there's going to be another Viper!! Long live the King of Snakes! Maybe it'll even be born from the Ferarri parts bin!!

If somebody asks what video I am talking about.
There was one (in the blank space between paragraphs) in which Marchionne is giving a speech, but it seems that for some reason Edmunds removed it.

The best looking Viper will always be the original. Outrageous, impractical and evil looking... pure auto lust. All that was needed was more space for the driver's left leg. Every revised Viper since the original simply borrows another styling cue from the Corvette. Bring back the original targa styling with the canvas emergency cover and side pipes!

I still don't like the way Mr. Marchionne puts Fiat as the source of all the technology that will save Chrysler (watch the video). Chrysler has its own, (from its previous associations with MB and Mitsubishi) and it is relevant for many of the new vehicles that are coming, for example the new Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Durango.
Fiat may have some good platforms and engines, but they have not been that succesful. Fiat has been able to survive thanks to the revenues of their branch in Brazil, where old platforms are adapted to the South American markets, and not because it is very succesful in Europe. It is really important in Italy, but that is all.

cardesigner: there were vents behind the doors, the hood scoop was larger and the headlamps were less hyundaiish.

Saw the Viper at the show. Two words, show stopper. Whoa mama. A perfect blend of the old Viper, new Viper and Ferrari.
Yeah, the Jeep truck is also for real. Loved in in Yellow.
