    Just the Facts:
    • Only 50 Final Edition Dodge Vipers will be built.
    • That figure includes 20 coupes, 18 roadsters and 12 ACRs.
    • All will be painted gray with a black center stripe outlined in red.

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Dodge took the wraps off its 2010 Viper SRT10 Final Edition models on Tuesday. The company said it will build 20 coupes, 18 roadsters and 12 ACRs when the Final Edition models debut in early summer.

True to their name, the Final Edition models celebrate the Viper's final year of production. Output will be significantly less than the 2002 Viper Final Edition coupes and ACRs, which totaled 360 units, the automaker said. Pricing has not yet been announced.

Each model gets a Graphite Clear Coat body with a painted black center stripe outlined in red. Coupe and roadster models get six-spoke wheels painted in anthracite, while ACR models will come with five-spoke, black "Sidewinder" wheels.

The black interior has custom red accent stitching, red painted halo surrounds on the gauge cluster and bright stainless-steel screws in the center stack bezel. You'll find an individually numbered plaque on the shifter bezel.

The Final Edition models are equipped with the usual 600-horsepower 8.4-liter V10 engine.

Inside Line says: It's Econ 101. Expect scarcity of these Viper Final Edition models to drive up demand — and the price. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

For those who don't 'get' the Viper... I understand, on a technical standpoint where you are coming form (although, on the same token... I'm not saying that the Viper isn't "advanced"). The Viper is  a savage beast, with little electronic ailment to keep the retards(a majority of the folk that can afford them) out of the bushes.

Here is what we have to look at: The Viper is a purpose-built machine...  In it's purest racing form (ACR), it lapped the Nurburgring in 7:22.1 (almost 4 seconds faster than the ZR1 Corvette and Nissan GTR). On a bad day, you can walk out the door for $110k. So far, the Viper is starting to look like a bargain. Also, let's think about the Viper in its convertible form - off the top of my head, I can't think of any competition that offers 600hp of V-10 power with a soft top that is $110k or less. The Viper is truly in a class of it's own.

I agree that on paper, the Viper doesn't have the greatest power/liter... or lbs per hp...  or whatever... but so what... if you want an American Supercar, you get the Viper (unless you can afford a Saleen S7).

Blew the Mustang and Camaro away???  Of course, with an 8.4L engine, it blows pretty much anything away but will never be an icon like the Mustang and Camaro are.  The Viper Last Edition???  To be quite honest, I thought this car had been extinct already....Oh well, guess a few people will miss it.

Drive one at a track sometime, if you love cars you'll get it.

Since the 1st time it came out, I never truly 'get' Dodge Viper,
It may look great, but that much power FROM that BIG of an engine (8.4 V10)?

(Other than looks & design), what is so special about this car?
Forgive my ignorance, but I don't think it is a breakthrough in engineering, is it?

The best engines in the world come from Ferrari (458) and Honda (S2000); they are able to crank out better horsepower/litre than this (600 from 8.4 = 71.4 hp/litre)

Just my 2 cents... of not 'getting' this car...

To think this started in a barn with a truck engine. The original viper rt/10 still looks better. This has the engine, but doesn't have the soul. It died with the 2nd Gen Viper. Still a mad sports car though.

I based my post on the Snake's song in the musical version of "The Little Prince" as I thought it was apropos.

"One sting and you can say goodbye to all of your friends; one sting and you'll be singing as your spirit ascends; All's well that ends."

This car dominated the world.  Within minutes of its launch in the 1990's, it blew away the entire Corvette/Mustang/Camaro power reputation.

Can't wait to see the next incarnation!

The Viper's final sting, with its exhaust singing as the RPM's ascend.
