Dodge Razor
What's special about it?
Think of this car as Chrysler's answer to the Pontiac Solstice. Drawing inspiration from classic European sports cars of the '60s, the Razor is intended to be a high-performance, but still affordable, sport coupe for younger buyers.
Powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter DOHC four-cylinder, the Razor can hit 60 miles an hour in less than 6 seconds on its way up to a top speed of 140 miles an hour.
Staying true to the classic sportscar design philosophy meant leaving out all unnecessary hardware. There's no power windows or mirrors, and no fancy leather seats. Dodge designers even left out the radio knowing that young buyers typically tear the factory systems out anyway to put in their own high-powered creations. "Razor's interior is a clean canvas. Our vision is that you would be able to get additional features through Mopar to paint your ideal driving setting," said Interior Designer Chris Schuttera.
Why should you care?
The fact that two of Detroit's big three unveiled concepts of affordable high-performance sports cars is promising. If Chrysler continues its current track record of bringing concepts to reality, and GM follows suit by bringing out the Solstice, we could be in for another '60s-like era of affordable performance.
