2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10
What's Special About It?
A 500-horsepower Viper-powered pickup that will be on sale in late 2003 is pretty special. We knew Dodge would build this truck, it was only a matter of timing the Ram SRT-10 is essentially a road-going version of the concept car the company was showing only a year ago in Detroit.
The result of Chrysler Group's PVO (Performance Vehicle Operations), the Ram SRT-10 is nothing less than the fastest production truck in existence. Zero-to-60 should come up in just over five seconds with a top speed of 150 mph. To ensure that all the power from the 8.3-liter engine gets to the ground effectively, the Ram SRT-10 rides on 22-inch Viper-style wheels shod with Pirelli 305/40 Scorpion Zeros. Power is transmitted to that massive rubber via a new Hurst linkage system and a modified version of the Viper's T56 six-speed transmission. A 4.10 rear axle makes sure that most of the V10's power gets to the wheels. The Ram also utilizes a custom dual-exhaust system as well as new exhaust manifolds.
Dodge calls the SRT-10 a "4x5" as it has four notable specs that meet or exceed the number 500. The truck has 500 hp, a 505-cubic-inch V10 engine, 525 pound-feet of torque and a 500-watt audio system. To guarantee stellar sound quality, the bumpin' audio system comes complete with 12 speakers, a subwoofer and two amps.
Why Should You Care?
The modern horsepower wars are well underway. If you loved the muscle cars of the 1960s but were too young or too poor to get in on the high-test fun, the SRT-10 offers a second chance at piloting a truly brawny Dodge. Brian Moody
