Earlier this month, Chrysler recalled 507 2009 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks because of a faulty clutch. In January, 32,782 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 trucks from 2008 and 2009 were recalled for a steering problem.
Recalls seem to be plaguing Dodge, which also recalled 16,852 2009 Dodge Journey SE models for a connector that could overheat and potentially catch fire, according to NHTSA. The quality problems come at a time when Chrysler is under intense scrutiny by the federal government, which is overseeing the restructuring of the embattled automaker.
The latest Ram recall involves the windshield wiper module motor assembly, NHTSA said in its recall summary of the problem. The assembly "may be susceptible to water intrusion that could result in partial or complete loss of windshield wiping capability. When the wiper system fails, the operator will have reduced visibility, which could result in a crash."
Dodge dealers will replace the wiper module assemblies with vented wiper motor housings for free. Chrysler has not yet provided an owner notification schedule, said NHTSA. Owners can contact Chrysler at (800) 853-1403.
