Chrysler Recalls 2007-08 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500

WASHINGTON — Chrysler is recalling 108,429 of its 2007-'08 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with the 6.7-liter diesel engine because of a problem that could cause an engine compartment fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"A silencer pad can sag and contact the exhaust gas recirculation cooler," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "This could result in an engine compartment fire."

In other related documentation, Chrysler said it is currently aware of 14 complaints of engine compartment fires with vehicles built prior to November 2007 "that may be related to this issue."

Dealers will add a bracket to support the engine compartment silencer pad adjacent to the exhaust gas recirculation cooler. The recall is expected to begin sometime in December. Owners can contact Chrysler at (800) 853-1403.

Inside Line says: If you own one of the aforementioned pickups, have it checked out ASAP with your dealer. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
