2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab Scores Big in Initial Crash Tests

    1 Rating
WASHINGTON — The 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab scored five-star ratings for driver and front passenger protection in a frontal crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Test results are not yet in on the Ram's chief competitor, the 2009 Ford F-150, according to the government watchdog.

This was only the first round of reporting on the redesigned Ram. Still to be determined are driver side and rear passenger crash ratings, along with rollover ratings for two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions of the Ram. Also yet to be tested are the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab and 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Regular Cab models.

In comparison, the 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Extended Cab and Regular Cab models earned five-star frontal driver and passenger ratings in a frontal crash and four-star ratings in rollover tests done on two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models. The 2009 model year marks the first time Dodge has offered a Ram in Crew Cab configuration.

Standard safety features on the 2009 Ram include standard front and rear side curtain airbags, antilock brakes and stability control.

Inside Line says: Thus far, the report card from the federal government looks good for the 2009 Dodge Ram Crew Cab in terms of crash testing. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
