Auto Show Article
Dodge has been teasing us with an Intrepid R/T performance version of the hot-selling LH Sedan since the Detroit International Auto Show last January. Instead of the pedestrian 225-horsepower V6 found in the ES models, the R/T comes with a 242-horsepower, 24-valve, 3.5-liter engine. There's also a performance suspension, four-wheel disc brakes with larger rotors and calipers, 18-inch wheels and an automanual transmission.
We still like the Intrepid R/T's exterior look, but we don't understand why the Dodge gets only a 242-horsepower engine when its cousin, the Chrysler 300, gets 253 horsepower. We suggest Dodge hold off on an R/T version of the Intrepid until it can give the car rear-wheel drive and give it a V8. Of course, at that point, they will probably call it a Charger.
