- First photos of the 2011 Dodge Durango are released.
- It's not yet known when the SUV will make its official debut.
- Dodge has only confirmed the Durango will continue to provide three rows of seating.
AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Official images of the 2011 Dodge Durango showing limited views of the redesigned SUV were released on Monday, but Chrysler is remaining mum on some key details. They include when the 2011 Durango will go on sale and whether it will make its worldwide debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show.
"There is nothing more I can say about it," said Chrysler spokesman Nick Cappa in a phone conversation with Inside Line on Monday.
The fate of the Durango — and whether it would reemerge as the reborn Dodge Magnum — has been the subject of media speculation for several months. The images confirmed that there will, indeed, be a Durango for the 2011 model year, and industry insiders say it will be car-based.
Like the Ford Explorer, which shifts to a car platform for model year 2011, the Durango originally was built on a truck base.
Chrysler did not make a 2010 Durango. "We discontinued the Durango when we closed the Newark, Delaware (assembly) plant in December 2008," said Cappa. "Two things had been under speculation — the name of the vehicle and when it would debut."
Cappa would not discuss the fate of the Magnum, noting only that its reappearance "hasn't been confirmed."
The images of a black 2011 Durango show a rather sleek-looking SUV with wraparound taillights and a touch of chrome. The official statement accompanying the images said "look for more of this all-new three-row performance SUV in the coming weeks." Durango followers can track the slow striptease on Dodge's Web site.
Inside Line says: We begin to get a better idea of what Chrysler has in mind for the resurrected Durango. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

What is wrong with Chrysler? I have a mint shape 1999 Durango and I love it. I would love it even better if I could have a 6 SPEED IN IT. There is a difference between a 4X4 and an SUV. GMC brags about their Sierra with 11,500 pound of towing capacity. OOOPS, my '99 Durango has 12,000 lbs of towing capacity. Sorry G.M. They need to keep the "Beefy" trucks on the road that actually represent themselves as a 4X4. Stop the SUV madness. I would really love to see the little crossovers try to pull a 38 foot boat without taking a deep breath. My 99 Durango does it without even a little strain. HA! And of course I go the speed limit. Let's get the REAL Durango back and make a SRT10 with a Standard Trans, 425 HP engine and optional 19 inch chrome rims that look similar to the 5 spokes on the Ram trucks. I tried to put one on my Durango. Ooops, 5 lugs. They would have looked sweet! And PLEEEEEEEZE, don't try to re-create the Dodge Magnum, That thing is reeeeeel ugly. How about making it look like the Toyota Venza? Except for the ungly front end, the Venza has a classy look for a wagon. Very Sporty. WAKE UP CHRYSLER! P.S. see all you SUV's in the ditch with my tow rope. By the way Chrysler, create a Dodge Charger - Dukes Edition, that looks like the old Charger from Duke's of Hazzard. Then you will have 2 sweet icons in your lineup. I love the Challenger.

Dodge come on, to copy the ugly butt Ugly Honda tail lamps is insulting to us wanting to get away from the "Mommy wagon" crowd. Give me a SRT vesion with 450hp. AWD, and stealthy looks. I'm going to wait to see the complete picture on this. The lease on my Honda is about up. And I'm tired of putting transmissions in it. Get this to market FAST Dodge! I want it!

Yeah, what is the huge thrill here??? We've already pretty much seen this thing. Not only that, but Chrysler is certainly not breaking any new ground with this....shoulda, coulda done better with the design and yes, definately better tail lights

The tow hooks make it look like maby it has off road potentional but i doubt it will.
The rear end is minivan ish extremely similar to a honda odyssey
The taillights in all dodges are so bland and un imaginitive and dodge hasent seemed to pick up that adding LEDs or tubes (caddy srx style) add a more expensive look to it the chalanger dispraly needs it too.

this definently won't beat the explorer and if ford makes a new expedition it won't stand a chance and the tailights looks so girly

I believe the double headlights follow the style of current Dodge cars. A first step to diferentiate Dodge from Ram.
On the other side the grille is still old style Ram truck, they have to work on that.

Yes, it has some sights of the Hilux SW4, a three-row SUV based on the Hilux/Tacoma plattform produced for Latin america/Asia.
