CHICAGO — The 2011 Dodge Durango Heat, basically a downscale version of the Durango R/T without the 360-horsepower 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, debuted on Wednesday at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. The Durango Heats gets the 295-hp 3.6-liter V6 and a lower price tag.

The five-passenger Durango Heat will go on sale in the spring priced at $31,145, including an $850 destination charge. The 2011 Dodge Durango R/T starts at $36,315, including shipping.

Dodge describes the Durango Heat as a "new affordable performance package."

It will be difficult to tell the Durango Heat and the Durango R/T apart. Both get the same fascia with foglamps, a color-matched grille and dark headlight bezels. A body kit, wheel lips and rear fascia with integrated dual chrome exhaust outlets give the Heat a lowered stance.

Dodge said the Heat also gets aggressive suspension tuning, performance steering, 20-inch wheels with all-season performance tires and a premium audio system with 10 speakers.

thats weird I don't remember this kind of commentary about the edge sport, that is heavier and slower than the regular one. This one is lighter and has better handling suspension.

Good job Dodge. I predict going forward more car's will offer "performance" packages w/o the bigger engines, especially in the face of rising oil prices.
