BELDING, Michigan — A 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit V8 has recorded the fastest lap time in Michigan State Police vehicle test history, according to Chrysler.
The 370-horsepower 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit V8 completed the lap in 1:33.70. According to FastestLaps.com, the Grattan Raceway lap record is 1:24.90, set by a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 in 2008.
"All four Michigan State Police Vehicle Test Team drivers averaged their fastest times in the Charger Pursuit," said Chrysler in a statement.
The automaker also noted that the 292-hp Charger Pursuit V6 models "held their own around Grattan Raceway, averaging the fastest times for naturally aspirated (1:37.71) and E85-capable (1:37.57) six-cylinder police cars."
The 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit V8 sprints from zero to 60 mph in under 6 seconds.
Michigan State Police testing took place this week, with the three domestic automakers in hot competition to outdo one another. Yesterday, General Motors issued a statement that the 2012 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle outperformed the 2013 Ford Police Interceptor.

ptlcb1 : She is correct as can be expected to use Fastlaps to cite the fastest time for cars on that course. The site is not a reference to race cars, but to stock production cars only. Therefore the racecar and racebike records are not relevant as the police car is a road car like the Corvette. Still the Charger is depressingly fast for a police car...

Here's a video we shot of the Dodge Charger Pursuit going head-to-head against the Crown Victoria. Former Le Mans winner Justin Bell is in the Dodge. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ROO2OAqyoc

My friends and I do hot laps at Grattan all the time; its neat to see my local track mentioned in an article!
As far as police vehicles go, the front end of a Charger is probably the most intimidating sight to see in your rearview mirror.

Fastestlaps.com needs to update their info. The ZR-1 is no where close to the fastest lap at Grattan. The outright lap record is just under a minute. Before Grattan re-did their website, it showed a Lola T101, back in '84, running a 1:01 and change. The motorcycle lap record is a 1:17.399.

Who cares how fast it'll be? The police have always chosen cars based on price and reliability... Why else did the Crown Vic last so long?

In civilized countries law enforcement officers drive efficient, responsible vehicles: Peugeot 307, Alfa 159, etc. Only US police are full of individuals who developed an inferiority complex after being bullied in high school.

Cops should be driving hybrids. They are not cowboys (as someone already stated here). They shouldn't be chasing anyone and endangering citizens. They should stop terrorizing motorists and start serving them.

Oh ok so basically you're telling me to get a ZR1 to avoid local police going forward. Got it!

zr1man, an under 6-second 0-60 is far from a "crawl". According to the Detroit Free Press, via google, the average price of a new car in the United States was $29,217 in 2010. We'll round that up to $30,000 dollars. There aren't many new cars for that money that will do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. The Charger Pursuit, therefore, is quicker than the average new car, which is all that's needed. After all, just because someone buys an expensive car that's quicker, doesn't mean they have the skill or will to try and outrun the Charger, or the ability to outrun the radio. Add to that the fact that Pursuit vehicles aren't drag racing, they're "pursuing", and your 0-60 comment is beyond silly.
And no one said that the Charger in question was faster than a ZR1. Do you have some kind of condition?
