- The Pentastar V6 will be standard in the 2011 Charger SE and Charger Rallye, while the 2011 Charger R/T retains the 5.7-liter Hemi V8.
- The new Charger goes on sale in the fourth quarter.
AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Chrysler has officially unveiled the redesigned 2011 Dodge Charger, which gets new sheet metal, a revised cockpit and a new Pentastar V6 engine. The car goes on sale in the fourth quarter.
Chrysler declined to release many details, but the 3.6-liter V6 is being used in several 2011 models, including the redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee, where it makes 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.
The Pentastar V6 will be standard in the 2011 Charger SE and Charger Rallye, while the 2011 Charger R/T retains the 5.7-liter Hemi V8.
The Charger R/T with all-wheel drive has an active transfer case that automatically disconnects the front axle to conserve fuel when AWD is not required.
Fans of the Charger won't be put off by the redesign. Such familiar cues as the signature grille, long roof and short deck have been carried over. The 2011 edition has a lower stance and more muscular styling, but the overall theme still looks quite familiar.
Chrysler has reworked the interior, which features lots of whiz-bang technology, including a Uconnect Touch infotainment system with Garmin navigation and Sirius Travel Link.
Available technologies include adaptive cruise control (ACC) with forward-collision warning (FCW), blind-spot monitoring (BSM) with rear cross path (RCP) detection and ParkView rear back-up camera.
Inside Line says: Prices won't be announced until closer to the on-sale date. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Great to be on this site. I am a 60-- year- old college instructor who happens to drive a 2010 Dodge Charger. Love the car, despite a better ROI on my previously-owned 2008 Honda Accord. But Dodge is narrowing the fuel consumption gap with smart technology. I love how the car handles and accelerates. Reminds me of the 70s when all my friends had muscle cars and I had a Ford Galaxy.
I am so impressed with my Charger that today I will try to buy the newest one- the 2011. I have had my car for only three months, so it may not be doable. But I'm taking my last savings to try and make this retro dream stay alive. If not, I am totally okay with keeping my current model.... may just have to make some strategic improvements.
I test drove a lot of the Mercedes products, and I can see how the platform of Charger evolved from Mercedes. Lots of Buy-American fans still don't know the two companies formerly enjoyed a marriage. I often boast of having a Mercedes-inspired transmission in my Charger.
Maybe, when I retire, I will park a Mercedes next to my perennial Dodge Charger. LOL to all.

"Ummm... the Charger is based on a Mercedes platform. Sorry to rain on your republican parade. If the UAW decides to quit smoking weed on the job, maybe then Chrysler can start to match competition. Granted the new cars look fantastic as far as Dodges go. "
So, you think that based on a single news story that UAW workers are more likely to smoke weed on the job than their Japanese or German equivilents? Do you believe that the non-union shops in the U.S. are less likely to have drug use on the job? I've got some slightly damp real estate that you might be interested in...

It's a solid improvement, but that obnoxious crossbar grille never belonged and has to go!

Thank god they fixed the horrendous tail lights on the current model. This one looks quite nice. That cheap chrome looking trim on the grill has to go though.

I like this car for its originality. It may not be everyone's taste, but without a doubt it is American, aggressive, in your face, and brute. Nothing else looks like it. Character exudes from every pore of its masculine body. Not many women will drive this macho car. I love the rear end, with a delete spoiler option. Refine the interior, and this thing will sell in good enough numbers and stay the original macho car, and become the de-facto police cruiser. 5 speed transmissions? really still....
