Save the Date: Dodge Challenger Drag Race Package To Be Unveiled July 13

CENTER LINE, Michigan — After generating tons of buzz in the past couple months, Mopar has finally announced that July 13 is the date when enthusiasts will get a glimpse of the new Dodge Challenger Drag Race Package car. It will take place at the yearly Mopar Mile-High Nationals at the Bandimere Speedway in Denver.

Details are still thin, but the Drag Race Package marks the 70th anniversary of Mopar and 40 years since the last package vehicles rolled out of Chrysler.

The car starts with the solid Challenger SRT8 base and features a body-in-white that has been upgraded with weight-reduction mods. The vehicle also had its engine repositioned and wheelbase shortened to help with weight distribution.

Three engine choices will be offered, and a minimum of 100 vehicles will be built to meet NHRA requirements. Stay tuned next week for an up-close and personal look at the car.

What this means to you: We'll find out soon if the new Dodge package cars can live up to their advance billing. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
