"[The] wait is nearly over," said the posting. "That Hemi rumble on the road you hear this weekend may be one of the hundreds of recently shipped muscle cars."
Dodge touted its experimental Web site that allows an owner to track the status of the Challenger as it is built and shipped. "If the site proves to be successful, it could be expanded to other Dodge vehicles," said Mark Mallie, Challenger brand manager.
The Web site enables Challenger owners to compulsively track the progress of their car "from the time their order is entered into the system, through paint, trim, quality control, shipping and delivery to their local dealership," noted thefirehouse.biz. "The site tells customers exactly what they ordered, including all the options."
The opening page of the Web site taps into the anxiety Challenger owners must feel as they wait to take delivery. "Oh, the sweet anticipation," it says. "The nervous excitement, restless sleep and constant glances toward the clock. We know you're excited, so we've created an order tracking system to keep you in the loop."
The automaker noted that each day, about 1,500 customers who ordered a new Challenger SRT8 log in to check the status of their vehicle.
Dodge says it expects the production run of 6,400 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8s to end by mid-July.
What this means to you: A smart way for Dodge to keep connected to Challenger owners and keep the buzz going. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
