Dodge Challenger SRT8, Nissan GT-R To Contest One Lap of America

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Chrysler said it has sold more than 6,400 Dodge Challenger SRT8s since the 2008 model went on sale in February. To further promote the car, two Chrysler executives have entered a prototype Challenger SRT8 in the 2008 One Lap of America, which kicks off Saturday, May 3, with an event at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

The One Lap entry, a white car, is being driven by Ralph Gilles, vice president of design, and Erich Heuschele, vehicle dynamics supervisor. The two drivers have borrowed the names Kowalski and Super Soul from the characters in the 1971 movie Vanishing Point, which featured a white 1970 Dodge Challenger.

In addition to Road America, the week-long One Lap of America includes individual events at such tracks as Mid America Motorplex, Texas World Speedway, Lonestar Motorsports Park, Carolina Motorsports Park and Virginia International Raceway.

    Among the cars entered are a 2008 Smart Forfiveone, a 2008 BMW 135i, a 2008 Hennessey Viper ACR and a 2009 Nissan GT-R.
