    What's Special About It?
Ever heard the expression "think outside the box?" Well, that phrase has become so overused that the very saying has, itself, become an "inside the box" expression. Often the people who use such catchphrases do so because they heard others doing it. And so it is with crossover vehicles. There was a time when a crossover concept was radical and fresh and different — the Subaru Forester and Outback sort of set the trend. Now, crossover vehicles are a dime a dozen and one gets the distinct impression many companies are building them only because the competition is doing so.

The Avenger is Dodge's entry into the crossover segment. It sits eight inches taller than a Dodge Stratus and boasts a wide stance and muscular-looking bodywork. There is a boom box built into the rear tailgate, and the rear hatch-type door opens a full 90 degrees to make loading and unloading easy. All-wheel drive and V6 power round out the Avenger package.

    Why Should You Care?
