WASHINGTON — Chrysler is recalling 284,831 2008-'09 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans because of a possible fire hazard within the rear sliding door, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"Some of the vehicles may have been built with an improperly routed wire harness that may have a condition where the lower sliding door hinge bracket can make contact and wear through the wire insulation," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "A short circuit could occur inside the sliding door, overheating the latch and possibly resulting in a fire."
Chrysler said it is "not aware of any accidents or injuries related to these issues," in a letter to NHTSA dated June 1 and signed by David D. Dillon. Chrysler will begin the recall sometime in June. Dealers will inspect the vehicles for damage, "repair/replace as necessary, tie strap the two harnesses together and route the harnesses under the sliding door weather strip." The automaker said the recall is limited to vehicles equipped with a power sliding door.

I have the 2008 caravan but not the "power" doors but I have the electrical problem whereby the wires have been chewed up by the sliding door. I am hoping the dealer will honor the recall, a mis-routed wire harness is a mis-routed wire harness. Anyone else have the same issue?
