WASHINGTON — Chrysler is recalling 24,177 of its 2009-'10 vehicles for a defect that could "result in brake failure without warning," according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The affected vehicles include the 2009-'10 Dodge Ram, the 2010 Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger, Dodge Nitro, Jeep Commander, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Liberty.
"These vehicles may have been built with an improperly formed or missing brake booster input rod retaining clip," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "This could result in brake failure without warning which could cause a crash."
Chrysler says it is "not aware of any accidents or injuries related to these issues," in other documentation filed with the federal government.
Chrysler will replace the brake booster input rod retaining clip on the affected vehicles. The recall is expected to begin sometime this month. The automaker also noted that, as part of its recall letter, it will "request that customers send original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company" if the owners have already fixed the problem on their own. It said they will be reimbursed.
Owners can contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403 for more information.

Toyota had to recall almost 4.5 million vehicles. Also had people actually die from their mechanical mishaps. Ooops.

So if you combine all of the sales of the 2009-2010 Dodge Ram, the 2010 Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger, Dodge Nitro, Jeep Commander, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Liberty it only adds up to 24,177?
