Chrysler PT Super Cruiser
What's Special About It?
Think of the Super Cruiser as a PT Turbo taken a few steps further down the path of performance. It still uses a force-fed 2.4-liter four-cylinder for motivation, but extensive internal tweaks crank up the power to nearly 300 horses. That's enough juice to attain some pretty serious speed so Chrysler engineers also added a set of giant Brembo disc brakes, six-point safety harnesses, Momo racing seats and a steel safety cage. Knowing that it should look as fast as it runs, stylists added a carbon fiber hood with a functional scoop, extended rocker panels and wider fenders that house 18-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. To keep things interesting on the inside, the Super Cruiser is setup with a full Infinity entertainment system that includes a 22-inch LCD video screen and an 875-watt surround sound audio system. Of course, when push comes to shove true performance enthusiasts wouldn't think of saddling their ride with all that extra weight so the entire system is quickly removable at a moment's notice.
Why Should You Care?
A PT with this kind of power isn't all that likely for production, but it does indicate that Chrysler may have more in mind for the PT than the Turbo model introduced this year. With the initial fervor over the PT all but history Chrysler knows that it needs new model variations to keep the PT fresh. Couple that with Chrysler's renewed interest in creating performance variants of nearly all its cars and trucks and there's no reason why a vehicle like the Super Cruiser couldn't surface sometime in the near future.
