Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible Concept
What's special about it?
What you see is what you get. That's right, it's a PT Cruiser with its top chopped off. While this car is strictly a styling concept, Chrysler is gauging public reaction to determine whether it's worth making into a production model. The PT Cruiser Convertible is the same size as a regular Cruiser and has the same wheelbase. To give this car access to the sun, Chrysler has fitted a power top from its convertible Sebring. Another major difference is its two-door body style, a change from the regular PT's four-door body. The concept's front doors are longer, and the rear has been fitted with customized rear quarter panels. Visually, the concept looks impressive with Deep Shadow Blue Pearl paint, body-color bumpers and a chrome front grille. Inside, there is seating for four passengers. The rear seat folds down to provide access to the cargo area. Like other PTs, this one has body-color interior trim pieces. It also has a cue-ball shifter for the automatic transmission, a combination currently not available on production PTs.
Why should you care?
PT Cruisers are natural cars for customization, and we're sure that a lot of people would love to see a convertible PT. But we don't recommend holding your breath. This concept's two-door style wouldn't be feasible from a mass production standpoint. Expect to see some custom PT Cruisers from Chrysler in the future, but we don't think a convertible will be one of them. -- Brent Romans
