Concept Cars: DaimlerChrysler Howler

DaimlerChrysler figured that if a Prowler was cool, a Prowler-based truck would be really cool, especially if it could incorporate a Jeep 4.7-liter V8 and a Borg-Warner T5 manual transmission. The result is a 250-horsepower, 300-ft.-lb custom hot rod called, appropriately enough, the Howler. It came about after two separate projects--one concentrating on a new Prowler look and another focusing on getting a V8 into the Prowler--came together. As DaimlerChrysler's Tom Gale said, "What better occasion than the SEMA show--which is all about customization and conversion--to link these projects and create another stunning show car."

By grafting a truck bed onto the Prowler's clean lines, DaimlerChrysler has crafted a more attractive, and more practical, street rod. Features like a 10.5-inch clutch and Dana 44 rear differential suggest that this truck isn't just for show. No official plans to build it yet, but they said that about the first Viper and Prowler show cars, too.
