AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — As further evidence that Chrysler's "Imported from Detroit" Super Bowl ad with Eminem was a smash hit, the automaker sold out of its "Imported from Detroit" clothing line in just hours this week. Chrysler also put a massive wrap around its Michigan headquarters building with the words "Imported from Detroit" on Thursday, as the three words have become the automaker's new rallying cry.
"I can't say how many sold," wrote Dianna Gutierrez, Chrysler spokesperson in response to an e-mailed query from Inside Line on Thursday about the clothing line. "New designs will be available shortly."
The Chrysler Collection Web site says the Imported from Detroit t-shirts are "currently out of stock."
Chrysler swiftly introduced the clothing line after its February 6 Super Bowl ad created an online sensation.
The automaker's building wrap features an image of the 2011 Chrysler 200. The wrap covers almost the entire west side of the company's 15-story headquarters.
"(Imported from Detroit) was created to convey the message that one does not have to cross an ocean to obtain luxury, it's available right here," said Olivier Francois, president and CEO of the Chrysler brand, said in a statement on Thursday.
Inside Line says: One of the most memorable auto ad campaigns in decades can only be made more memorable if it ends up being lampooned on Saturday Night Live — or YouTube. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Hmm...That's odd that you all think that Made In Detroit is actually made in Detroit and that these tee shirts aren't. I recently noticed if you look inside a normal Made In Detroit baseball cap, under the made in Detroit tag there is a white tag that is cut off....A made in china tag perhaps? Isn't that ILLEGAL. I also noticed the same thing on the children's onsies, hoodies, and cotton tees.....
MAKE YOUR CLOTHES HERE KID ROCK AND DON'T BE CHEAP

"Wife had a CHRYSLER once, the engine was done at 80k, body squeeked and shook, rust was prevalent and the MAP sensor died when the engine soot clogged it, thus killing the engine and leaving you by the side of the road. First time the car only had 16k on it!
Since then she has only owned IMPORTED and doesn't need a t-shirt to say anything !"
Great. My brother had a TOYOTA once, the engine seized at 74k despite all service being performed on time at the dealer. Since then he has only owned DOMESTIC and has never needed a t-shirt to say anything!
Big whoop. My anecdote is no more revealing than yours.

This line of clothing is owned by Kid Rock, who is from southeast Michigan. Kid did not start this line, but I believe bought it from the original creators. It has been around for years. Lots of cool clothes. I have 4 shirts & just got a hat. My favorite is the "Shifter" shirt with a 6 speed manual shift pattern with the Detroit letters.

I guess it's pretty easy to sell out of shirts when you only produce 10 of them, all "imported" from Detroit.

Like just about any OEM product in any industry, the finished manufactured goods are composed of various grommets widgets and trinkets from across the globe. As with automobiles in particular it's really impossible to say where a 'car' is actually manufactured, since it's technically manufactured everywhere. The Wall Street Journal did a study a year or two ago and discovered that the car with the most American-sourced parts is actually the Toyota Camry.
