    Chronos: Car of the Gods

January 5, 1998 -- Ok, we know the spelling is off, but if ever there were a car named for the father of Zeus, this would be the one. Shown as one-off concept at the 1998 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Chrysler Chronos is designed to be the best eve r Chrysler concept vehicle. Since recent Chrysler concept vehicles include the Chrysler Phaeton, Chrysler Atlantic, Plymouth Prowler, and Dodge Viper RT/10, the members of Chrysler's design team had their work cut out for them.

The result is the Chrysler Chronos, a continuation of the elegant concept cars that Chrysler has developed recently, with a dash of the Ghias of the 1950s thrown in for good measure. Some of the Chronos's design highlights include a massive wheelbase, 13 1 inches from axle to axle; a Chrysler Airflow-like front grille, balanced wheel emblems which do not rotate with the tires, centered dual exhaust ports, and an amazing wood, leather, and carbon fiber interior which houses such niceties as a center consol e humidor.

Is this car beautiful? Yes. Will you see anything like it on the road? Not likely. There is not much of a market for 6.0-liter V-10, 2+2 touring cars these days, which is unfortunate because a car like this would make the world a more beautiful place.
