    What's Special About It?
Dubbed "the ultimate expression of functional art" by the Chrysler design team, the Airflite concept blends the striking styling of the Crossfire coupe with the added practicality of a four-door sedan. Built on a shortened version of Chrysler's new rear-wheel-drive LX platform, the Airflite promises thrilling performance to go along with its rakish good looks. The design was said to be influenced not only by contemporary furniture and marine architecture but Chrysler's own art deco New York City skyscraper.

Because it's intended as more than just a low-slung performance car, the Airflite's interior features numerous practical design details. The rear hatch is hinged deeper into the roofline in order to allow for a larger rear cargo opening while the center console extends the length of the vehicle to provide support for various components. A combination of brushed metal and wood trim and terra-cotta leather accents brighten up the interior while various "floating" pieces are used to emphasize a feeling of spaciousness.

    Why Should You Care?
While Chrysler has a habit of turning its concepts into reality, the future of the Airflite is far from assured. The official company line contends that it's not headed for showrooms but the fact that it uses an existing platform and numerous Crossfire design elements makes the Airflite well within the realm of possibility.
