2002 Chrysler 300M Special
What's special about it?
Chrysler has a long tradition of taking otherwise mundane cars and turning them into bona fide street machines. Announced as an actual production model for 2002, this special edition 300M features a full array of factory add-ons that give the normally sedate 300M a more aggressive appearance.
Chrysler engineers took the stock 300 and lowered it a subtle half-inch while adding a full-body ground effects kit to enhance the lowered look. Sharp 18-inch multispoke wheels wrapped in 245/45ZR18 Michelin Pilot tires add to its aggressive stance. Underneath the sheetmetal lies an enhanced brake system, firmer strut damping and a revised steering gear for a more responsive feel through the wheel. A dual exhaust system and high intensity discharge headlights round out the exterior changes.
Carbon fiber accents on the instrument panel and doors dress up the interior along with brushed aluminum sill plates and unique leather seats. Other upgrades include a tire pressure monitoring system, an eleven-speaker Infinity sound system and electronic brake force distribution.
Why should you care?
It's been a long time since any of the big three produced a legitimate performance sedan. The 300M Special isn't exactly going to win any stoplight showdowns, but the fact that Chrysler even acknowledged the need for its existence is a good sign. Now if they could just squeeze a V8 and a manual in there, they would really have something to talk about. Ed Hellwig
