    Just the Facts:
    • 2006 Chrysler 300 Touring gets an 8.3-liter Viper V10 engine.
    • Chrysler sedan now puts out a reported 525 horsepower.
    • The owner modified the car in his own garage.

TOOELE, Utah — Among the Dodge Vipers heating up the drag strip at the 11th Annual Viper Owner's Invitational was a unique car that clearly did not fit in: a 2006 Chrysler 300 Touring with Viper V10 power.

Inside the engine bay sits an 8.3-liter V10 Viper engine that makes a claimed 525 horsepower. The power plant is mated to a T56 Tremec six-speed manual transmission and also features an Aeromotive fuel tank in the trunk, a 3-inch C&R racing radiator and a Sprinter oil filter. Eibach adjustable coil-overs and a sway bar kit were part of his modifications as well.

The car was pretty much rebuilt from the bottom up by the owner, Derek Ekins, in his two-car garage using not much more than a jack stand, a welder and an engine hoist. The only help he got was from Hotwire Auto for the wiring harness, and DC Performance to reflash the ECU.

"I built it knowing about the power and trying to keep it reliable," said Ekins. "I didn't really build it to race it. I just wanted something different. I really liked the Viper, but I couldn't fit my whole family in it."

I'm more interested this guy's garage that this tranformation took place than the actual car.

    higgsboson, 6.3 was a typo -- sorry.

Anyway, M5 is a good example.  500hp and a whopping 380tq.  Don't get me wrong, the 5.0 in the M5 is a technological masterpeice, but it's hard to argue with 600hp and 560tq, especially for an engine that was made for a truck.  The high-revving 10's in the European cars simply don't have the grunt that the large displacment American engines have.

That Mopar V10 is 8.3 litres not 6.3.

    BMW M5 5litre V10 = 500hp.

"A blueprinted SRT8 with less weight over the front wheels and designed from the factory would've been a better choice, IMO.  The power would be close and the lower weight would offset the V-10's advantage."

He wanted a Viper that could carry his family, not an SRT-8 300.

If you are stating that he should've choose the SRT-8 to begin his build, that would have NO advantage! He would have to gut the tranny, springs and engine bay anways. To keep the cost down, you'd want to start off as cheaply as possible. All he would gain is fog lights, a deck spoiler and better driver and passenger seats.

Nice job.  I'm thinking a strut tower brace should be next on his list to tighten up the front end with that heavy motor.

I think the strangest application of the Viper V10 was in a PT Cruiser.  I seem to remember Hennessey stuffing one in the BACK of a PT.  I think it was called the PT Crusher.

    This dude rules!

For those of you telling him he used the wrong car etc, go build your own damn car.

Who sits there and nitpicks some stranger about his own personal project car.

Just hope they mount a proper transmission to this one.

    @higgsboson:

It's 600hp and 560?tq for the 6.3.  I'm guessing that 525hp is at the wheels.  This is from a naturally aspirated pushrod motor.

Put into perspective, even the high-revving V10's from Europe don't make that power (not all, anyway -- M5, anyone?), and they especially aren't making that torque.

    Awesome! Just plain friggin' awesome!

Now if I can just figure out a way to put a 427cc. big block in a Toyota Sienna....

The Hemi is very heavy. In fact, the Viper V10 weighs less than the SRT Hemi...It is longer so it will hang over the front axle line a little more, but it has a lot more torque.
