NEW YORK — The 2012 Chrysler 300C SRT8 debuts at the 2011 New York Auto Show on Wednesday as the Detroit automaker continues to flesh out its SRT8 lineup. The Chrysler 300C SRT8 has been on hiatus since 2010; the new sedan will arrive in showrooms in the third quarter.
Pricing has not been announced for the 2012 Chrysler 300C SRT8, but expect it to exceed the $38,995 price tag on the 2011 Chrysler 300C.
Chrysler has kicked up the horsepower on the 2012 300C SRT8, courtesy of a larger-displacement 6.4-liter Hemi V8 rated at 465 horsepower. A five-speed automatic transmission drives the rear wheels. The company says 0-60-mph acceleration will land in the "high 4-second range," and the big sedan will have a top speed of 175 mph. Chrysler said fuel economy numbers will be introduced closer to vehicle introduction.
The automaker said the 2012 300C SRT8 has a 0.5 inch lower ride height than other Chrysler 300 models. Exterior details include new seven-spoke 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. An optional Black Chrome package includes black chrome upper and lower grille surrounds and rear valance strip.
The cabin gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel, carbon-fiber trim and a new instrument panel with an 8.4-inch color touchscreen display. A new Harman Kardon audio system is optional.

Looks good. Interior? Weight?
Niggles: Why must every vehicle roll on DUBS? They were ridiculous in 2000, and continue to be so. Also, why do so many pine for the 8 speed? It would seem to me that the tranny would always be searching for the right gear. If more gears is what is best than we have already reached the pinnacle of transmission tech: the CVT. Have the computer give some determined ratios and be done with it. Sometimes more is less, IMO.

Funny thing really. I find more of these comments directed at the Chrysler muscle car lineup than all the others combined.
Where is your lofty criticism for the:
BMW x6m 12 mpg
BMW x5m 12 mpg
Audi S6 14 mpg
Range Rover Sport 12 mpg
Land Rover LR4 12 mpg
Lexus LX 12 mpg
Lexus LS 460 15 mpg
Merc S AMG 11 mpg
Merc CLS AMG 12 mpg
Toyota Sequoia 12 mpg.
just to name a few. Funny how these always come away unscathed from fuel economy criticism.

Count me among the "morons" who believe that greenhouse gasses are contributing to global warming and oceanic acidification, along with numerous Nobel Prize winners in physics, chemistry and economics. Even worse, I keep voting for politicians who want to raise taxes on top earners, including me, to bring the budget back into Clintonian order.
But I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat once they replace the transmission with the 8 speed. And I'm not voluntarily sending any money to Washington either.
My contribution to CO2 emissions and Federal tax receipts is less than trivial, so voluntary action is irrational. Change the law so that everyone does their part and I'm more than happy to participate.
In the meantime, I'm spending my untaxed earnings on big honking V8's. And hoping that by the time the politicians finally address climate and oceanic damage and balancing the budget, Tesla will have an eco-friendly muscle car for the masses.

purpose in today's world" you mean
'I am green with envy' ???
This is PERFECT juan_mx !!! Obviously there are so many more commenters in this catagory.

Another gimmick from MOPAR.
A very profitable one. Lets face it NO car in the world is getting SMALLER and LESS EXPENSIVE!!!! EVERYONE wants more room, more power, more, more, more. Even you WIKIWIKI and you too DGS4, or we'd all be pedaling... hahahaaa
The SRT cars do just that. They also offer fuel efficent V6's in the same type cars at very good prices.
side note: Watching Angels and Demons last night.... can't wait to see what Chryser style teams do when they get their hands on those cars.
JMO ... I could be wrong.

"Chrysler has the ability, through overseas connections to develop an engine that will have Mega HP and great gas mileage, but they are too narrow minded to do!"
I am not sure of that.....
What european manufacturer has a 400+hp engine with good fuel economy?
M3 20mpg (hwy)
X5M/X6M 17mpg (hwy)
C63AMG 19mpg (hwy)
E63AMG 20mpg (hwy)
S6 19mpg (hwy)
The Challenger SRT8 392 gets 23mpg (hwy) with basically the same engine than this 300C.

@dmpete; No one is saying you don't have a right to buy what you want, it's the reality that, whatever you or anyone else does, will to a smal part, have consequences to others in this country. Sure it would be fun to buy a big "Barnburner" and go 100+ on the freeways, but driving a high tech powerplant would be better.

This thing looks seriously badass. Don't really know of any other way to put it. If only it had a better trans, it'd be on my list, especially since I get employee pricing.
