2009-'10 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 Recalled

    11 Ratings

WASHINGTON — Chrysler is recalling an estimated 12,674 2009-'10 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles equipped with rear-wheel drive because tire and wheel separation could occur, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"These vehicles may have been built without a front wheel spindle nut," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "While driving, a tire and wheel separation could occur, increasing the risk of a crash."

In other documentation filed with the federal government, Chrysler said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue. It explained to the NHTSA that SMW Automotive, a new Chrysler supplier, began providing the front corner modules for the affected 2010 vehicles "due to the bankruptcy of the previous supplier." Chrysler noted that the all-wheel-drive models of these vehicles are "not affected due to different front corner architecture."

Chrysler and Dodge dealers will inspect the tire and wheel assembly and, if it is found to be without a spindle nut, conduct the necessary repairs. The recall is in effect now, according to NHTSA. Owners can contact Chrysler at 800-835-1403.

Something smells fishy about a story where a guy traveling at full throttle can make a cell phone call, but can't think to turn off the ignition or simply move the gear selector into neutral.
I have purchased 10 mopars and every one had to go back to the dealer for something in the first 10,000 miles, but I was okay with that.
Then I purchased a Toyota Camry in 2004. It's been driven over 103,000 miles and has not seen the any mechanic. I have performed routine oil changes, brake pad replacement, and I had installed new tires twice.
The Camry's 4 popper hums sweetly at all speeds and we average almost 30 MPG.
But, back to the Challenger recall. I don't inderstand how those vehicles could have been driven off the assembly line with missing spindle nuts.

well ur right its only 12,000 recalls against toyota 3.8 million. But the recalls for Dodge is 2009-2010  (thats probably the total of NEW dodges sold in a whole year) Toyota recalls goes back to 2007- 2010 and they sell more cars then Dodge and still do with the recalls. So that being said this is a big blow to Dodge they were already hurting for sells and this happens. I will still drive a toyota before i will drive a dodge( besides dodges have a history of recalls)

Toyota, nor NHTSA, has ever issued a recall over the recent 3.8 million vehicles. It is a safety alert that Toyota issued on its own, but alerted NHTSA to the details for their input as well. There is nothing wrong with the floor mats. Toyota wants to make sure people have them secured to the floor with the clips provided, instead of sliding around to get stuck.

Chrysler recalls 12k vehicles.  TOYOTA is  recalling 3.8 MILLION.  Great comparison.  I havent heard of any families calling from a cell phone while driving a Chrysler right before they crash and die from this.  Can Toyota say the same?

Yeah, Chrysler can't even build a low-volume car like this correctly.  The difference between Toyota and Chrysler is that everyone is surprised when Toyota has a recall and thus they stick out in one's memory, whereas Chrysler builds so much garbage and has done so for so long, people can't recall the last recall they issued.  I could see saving GM, maybe, but the Obamunist should've let Chrysler go into the tank without a second thought.

Somewhere I read that Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep has the lowest reliability ratings of all the manufacturers (foreign and domestic).  FIAT, you cannot fix this ship fast enough.  Actually, if I were Serg Marchionne, I would shitcan each of these models (Challenger, Charger and 300).
