In one image of the production Volt, part of the front is shown, with blue-glowing headlights and what appear to be LED foglights. This image is very similar to the part of the Volt unveiled for ABC News this past weekend. Another photo shows a small part of the rear of the Volt. The nameplate is striking, with a bolt of lightning running through the letter "V."
The other images are worth noting because in several of them, portions of the Volt are also shown, as engineers and mechanics work on the vehicle. It's possible to cobble together a decent look at the Volt by studying the pictures.
GM told reporters that it has created a new media Web portal for the Volt, underscoring the growing importance of the electric vehicle as consumers continue to be pounded by high gas prices. The automaker said the new Web portal was designed to provide the media with Volt product information "quickly and easily."
At the same time, the Associated Press reported that the Volt is on schedule, but that "dozens of issues remain before General Motors can start selling the revolutionary vehicle in 2010 as planned.
"The Volt's chief engineer is on a tight schedule to figure out how the car will handle the batteries' weight, dissipate their heat and mechanically transfer their power to the wheels," the AP said. "That's not to mention the list of issues that have nothing to do with the fact that the car plugs into the wall for recharging."
