LOS ANGELES — Chevrolet has picked a winner in its Volt color-naming contest, and it's Viridian Joule. The descriptor for the greenish-gray metallic finish on the upcoming 2011 Volt electric car beat out two other finalists, "environMINT" and "EV-ergreen," taking nearly 3,000 votes in an online contest. Dave Thomas of Sanford, Florida, was the winner.
All three finalists had agreed prior to the winner announcement that they would participate together in being the first consumers to drive the Volt. The announcement and drives took place against the backdrop of the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.
"Viridian" is a blue-green pigment name, and "Joule" is a unit of energy.
Thomas and the other finalists, Matt Valbuena and Devin McQuarrie, each had a turn behind the wheel of the EV outside the J Restaurant and Lounge in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Thomas was "a little frisky" driving the Volt through a course laid out with a series of cones, GM said.

- Of course he's going to be "a little frisky"!!! I would have driven the crap out of that Volt. GM should at least give this man a Volt or a Camaro painted Viridian Joule... anything!

a lease would've been nice.... The guy should've trademarked the name. I see the website names for the color are on ebay..if it's not him, SOMEONE will profit off of this.

He won a chance to test drive a Volt. Man, thats lame. I'll be able to do the same thing at my local chevy dealer sometime next year. I thought they'd at lest give him a 24 month lease on one or something.
