LOS ANGELES — Late-night host Jay Leno invited Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) President John Hennessey into his garage to learn more about the HPE Venom GT and to check out the 1,200-horsepower lightweight supercar in person.
The video below offers the inside scoop from Hennessey himself, telling how the idea for this car came about. He jests that the car was more of a pipe dream at first, and explains that he wanted to create a car that made no excuses about having an absurd power-to-weight ratio.
The video includes footage of the Venom shredding up the MSR Houston track, supposedly with former Director of GM Performance Division John Heinricy at the helm.
The $900,000 supercar makes its 1,200 horsepower from a Chevrolet 6.2-liter LS9 V8 and weighs under 2,700 pounds. It touts 18 psi of boost, and runs on pump gas from your local station.
