What's New for Every 2009 Chevrolet Car, Truck, Crossover and SUV

    0 Ratings
Chevrolet's 2009 lineup is dominated by two themes: outrageous horsepower and improved fuel economy. On one hand, there's the second coming of the Corvette ZR1, now one of the world's most powerful cars thanks to its 638-horsepower supercharged V8. At the other extreme, Chevrolet has added two new hybrids (Silverado, Tahoe) along with XFE (extra fuel economy) versions of the Cobalt, Silverado and Tahoe. Also new for 2009 is the Chevrolet Traverse, an all-new midsize crossover that splits the difference between the compact Equinox and full-size Tahoe/Suburban SUVs. It's also worthy of note that almost all Chevrolet models now offer Bluetooth connectivity through GM's OnStar system.

2009 Chevrolet Avalanche: The 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche is essentially a carryover model, but there are several minor changes. A new six-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous four-speed unit on both the standard 5.3- and optional 6.0-liter V8s. Base 2WD models get a 3.08 rear axle ratio for improved mileage. A new heavy-duty trailer tow package option adds an integrated brake controller and a 3.42 rear-axle ratio. Chrome 20-inch wheels are available on top-of-the-line LTZ models. Interior enhancements include a new, updated version of OnStar with turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, upgraded XM Satellite Radio with real-time traffic, and an available back-up camera integrated into the rearview mirror. New colors include Inferno Orange and White Diamond Tricoat (LTZ only). LTZ models also add new body-side moldings, a chrome tip on the shift lever, "Chevrolet" door sill plates, a Bose audio system, and heated and cooled leather seats.

2009 Chevrolet Aveo: The 2009 Aveo sedan is a carryover model, while the Aveo5 hatchback gets an all-new design inside and out. Both models feature a new 1.6-liter Ecotec engine with variable valve timing rated at 107 hp and 106 pound-feet of torque. OnStar is now standard on all models along with an auxiliary input jack; XM Satellite Radio is now optional. An enhanced driver information center adds outside temperature and fuel range function. New colors include Black Granite Metallic (replaces Black), Blue Moon (replaces Icelandic Blue) and Tahiti Green. Spicy Orange is no longer available.

2009 Chevrolet Cobalt: The 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt is a carryover model, although there are several minor improvements designed to increase fuel economy, along with the addition of a sedan version of the Cobalt SS. The standard 2.2-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine now makes 155 hp thanks to the addition of variable valve timing. Low-rolling-resistance tires are standard, along with a taller 3.63 final-drive ratio on manual transmission models. On the inside, all Cobalts get OnStar as standard equipment along with Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. A reconfigurable performance display has also been added to all SS models. There are three new exterior colors: Gold Mist, Silver Ice and Silver Moss. The Cobalt Sport coupe and sedan models are no longer available.

2009 Chevrolet Colorado: There are a few minor changes for the 2009 Chevrolet Colorado. For the first time, a 300-hp 5.3-liter V8 is optional on extended- and crew-cab models. The base four-cylinder engine gets a revised fuel system for improved mileage. All models get an upgraded brake system, stability control and a bedliner. A new ZQ8 sport suspension is available with the V8 engine, which lowers the truck and adds 18-inch wheels, low-profile tires and several cosmetic enhancements. Base models have been upgraded with 16-inch steel wheels, carpet and cloth seats. There are two new exterior colors: Aqua Blue and Deep Navy replace Imperial Blue and Pace Blue.

2009 Chevrolet Corvette: There are only minor changes for the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette. All trim levels get a variable steering ratio, Bluetooth connectivity, steering wheel audio controls and an acoustic package as standard equipment. There are two new exterior colors: Blade Silver and Cyber Gray; Machine Silver is no longer available.

2009 Chevrolet Corvette Z06: The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 gets only minor changes for 2009. New "spider" wheels are available in chrome, Competition Gray or Sparkle Silver. Red and Titanium interiors get matching door and instrument panel accents, while the door sill plates get "Z06" logos. The capacity of the dry-sump oiling system has also been increased to 10.5 quarts and the acoustic package is now standard.

2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1: The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is an all-new model. Although based on the standard Corvette, the ZR1 gets a long list of upgrades that make it the most powerful — and expensive — Corvette ever produced. Chief among them is its unique 6.2-liter supercharged V8. It produces 638 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque, making the ZR1 one of the most powerful production cars in the world.

2009 Chevrolet Equinox: New colors (Cyber Gray Metallic, Gold Mist Metallic and Silver Ice Metallic); Bluetooth connectivity; standard head curtain airbags; and XM Satellite Radio are the only changes for the 2009 Chevrolet Equinox.

2009 Chevrolet Express: The 2009 Chevrolet Express full-size van gets only minor changes for 2009. Electronic stability control and 17-inch wheels are now standard on all half-ton models. Vans with the V6 engine get a standard engine oil cooler while 5.3-liter V8-equipped models get a GCWR bump to 7,300 pounds and a higher-capacity alternator. A fast idle option has also been added to models with the 6.0-liter V8. Any model with a GCWR above 14,000 pounds gets a standard transmission-oil cooler.

2009 Chevrolet HHR: Although the 2009 Chevrolet HHR is essentially a carryover model, there are some significant new options and a new model called the HHR Panel SS. It combines the clean, nearly windowless look of the HHR panel van with the performance of the turbocharged SS model. For 2009, Super Sport trim is also available on standard HHR models with the rear window delete option. The base 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine receives variable valve timing that bumps horsepower from 149 to 155. Both the 2.2-liter and 2.4-liter engines are now FlexFuel capable. Electronic stability/traction control and four-wheel antilock brakes are now standard on all models. Interior upgrades include standard head curtain side airbags and XM Satellite Radio and optional Bluetooth connectivity. A revised cupholder design moves the window switches to the doors except on SS models with a manual transmission. A reconfigurable performance display has also been added to all SS models.

2009 Chevrolet Impala: For 2009, the Chevrolet Impala adds several features to the standard equipment list including four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, Bluetooth connectivity, manual dual-zone climate control and side impact airbags. New colors include Aqua Blue Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic and Victory Red. Precision Red and Silverstone Metallic are no longer available.

2009 Chevrolet Malibu: After its full redesign in 2008, the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu is largely unchanged this year. Electronic stability and traction control are now standard; Bluetooth connectivity is optional. All trim levels now get the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as standard. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard on the top-of-the-line LTZ trim and optional on midlevel LT models. There are four new colors: Gold Mist Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, Silver Moss Metallic and Summit White Metallic.

2009 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid: An all-new car in 2008, the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid gets few changes this year. New 17-inch wheels, an optional engine block heater and five new colors (Golden Pewter Metallic, Gold Mist Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, Silver Moss Metallic and Summit White Metallic) are the only upgrades.

2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500: The big news for the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the addition of a six-speed automatic transmission on models with the 5.3-, 6.0- and newly optional 6.2-liter V8. Available on crew-cab models only, the 6.2-liter engine produces 403 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. Electronic stability control is now standard on all V8-powered Silverados. A new XFE trim level has been added for 2WD crew-cab models that offers a 7 percent increase in city mileage and 5 percent increase in highway mileage thanks to reduced weight (aluminum suspension arms and wheels); improved aerodynamics (standard tonneau cover, lower front airdam, reduced ride height suspension); and a standard six-speed automatic transmission.

The optional equipment list for all models now includes redesigned 18- and 20-inch chrome wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, XM Satellite Radio with real-time traffic and a rearview camera system that does not require the factory navigation system. New colors include Black Granite and Imperial Blue. Dark Blue Metallic and Desert Brown Metallic are no longer available.

2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid: The Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid is an all-new model for 2009. It combines a 6.0-liter V8 with GM's two-mode hybrid drive system to help deliver up to 25 percent better fuel economy while maintaining a 6,100-pound towing capacity. 2009 Chevrolet Suburban: A standard six-speed automatic transmission is the most significant change for the 2009 Chevrolet Suburban, but there are several updates to the features list as well. A new version of OnStar adds turn-by-turn navigation and destination download in addition to Bluetooth connectivity, while the standard XM Satellite Radio adds real-time traffic information. A new blind spot detection system has been added to the options list along with a third-row DVD monitor, two rearview camera choices, 20-inch chrome wheels (LTZ trim only), a heavy-duty trailer tow package and an integrated brake controller.

All 2WD models equipped with the 5.3-liter V8 also get a 3.08 rear axle ratio for improved mileage. Top-of the-line LTZ models also get Red Jewel Tintcoat as a new color option. Dark Brahma Jewel will be available on a limited basis as well. The 50/50 split, two-passenger third-row seat has been replaced by a three-passenger version on all models.

2009 Chevrolet Tahoe: The 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe is largely a carryover model, although there are a few significant upgrades. Most notable is the availability of a 6.2-liter V8 on the top-of-the-line LTZ models that's rated at 395 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. There's also a new six-speed automatic transmission for all Tahoes except base models with the 4.8-liter V8.
