MUNICH, Germany — Geiger Cars, the German tuner known for its extremely modified SUVs such as the tanklike H2 Bomber, has developed a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) hybrid conversion kit for the already dual-mode Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid.
From the factory, the Tahoe Hybrid is equipped with a variety of fuel-saving measures. The SUV not only has an automatic cylinder-deactivation system that shuts down four cylinders when they are not needed, but Chevy also couples the 6.0-liter V8 with two 60-kw electric motors that charge a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery. In regard to fuel economy, the full-size SUV is rated at 21 mpg.
Geiger Cars looked at the Tahoe as an opportunity to take the hybrid one step further and created this LPG system conversion kit. By turning the vehicle into a "tri-mode" hybrid, the company says it manages to cut the effective fuel costs in half with the current LPG prices.
Pricing for just the LPG conversion kit is set at just over $5,000, while the whole setup including the car will run you about $76,000.
