DETROIT — General Motors revealed two Chevrolet concepts at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, the Chevrolet Spark minicar and the seven-seater Orlando MPV, and said both models will go on sale in the U.S. market in 2011.
The Spark, based on the Beat concept from the 2007 New York Auto Show, is intended to bring Chevrolet a strong contender in the "extremely fuel-efficient" category in the U.S. market. The small four-door will be shown in production form this March at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show and is set to go on sale in Europe in early 2010.
The Orlando, which was first seen at the 2008 Paris Auto Show last fall, is a five-door multipurpose vehicle that is based on the new Chevrolet Cruze sedan. It has three rows of seats and a 150-horsepower 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine. General Motors says it "combines the versatility of a sport-utility, a family van and a wagon" and adds that it is expected to offer excellent fuel economy numbers.
