Just bought the 2012 Sonic LT Sedan on 2-28-2012. WOW! What an awesome ride. Power like my 1987 VW GTI that I drove when I was in high school. This car has the room needed and is not a car for people with children. So I wish the reviewers would quit dinging this car for that! It handles like you are riding on rails. Tight, smooth, and a comfortable ride. Gas mileage is awesome. Sturdy built car. I feel totally safe driving by big rigs on the road. It has a powerful 138 hp 16v 4cycl. My GTI back in the day had a 16v 4cycl and I loved driving that car. I feel like I am reliving my past and it's awesome. Thank you to the guys who designed and engineered the Sonic for Chevrolet. Awesome Job guys!

The Sonic is a great-looking car. I may just go back to a Chevy.

I like the aggressive look of the front end. Sonic SS would be nice.

The Koreans (GM Daewoo) and Germans (GM Opel) are finally getting the hang of small cars. The Sonic was a collaborative effort of the two foreign nations.
Too bad GM USA is still focused on gas-hog trucks.
At least the Sonic will be built in USA and not imported from Mexico like the Fiesta.

GM is finally getting the hang of small cars. The Sonic is priced right and is going to be a successful product for Chevrolet. It doesn't top the class in my opinion with all that obvious use of plastic filler panels on the exterior and a weird looking dash. The 2012 Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio are going to top the class!

correction: the 1.4T is $700 option on the LT.. so it's $700 more than I quoted. My bad.

I read the LT has the 1.4T/6spd man. standard. The sedan LT looks attractive at that price and powertrain and has everything that most people need...
"The LT models include a six-speaker premium sound system with CD player, XM Radio, power windows with driver's express up/down, power heated side mirrors, a connectivity package with a USB port, Bluetooth for select phones and music and steering wheel-mounted audio controls, 10 airbags, air conditioning, power door locks, remote keyless entry and 15-inch alloy wheels."
Plus the Sonic is the only car in segment built in the US.
@blackdynamite0:
I agree, starting price is very important in the segment for attracting people into the showroom.. for this reason it might be a good idea for the others to offer a stripper model just to advertise the price (it worked for Versa).. even if the don't carry many. Good point.
I hope it handles good because that 1.4T/6spd LT version looks really attractrive to me for the price though. It certainly has rubber with 15" wheels standard.

Ah....
The beauty of American cars... (GM, Ford, Chrysler, etc)
Instead of improving the current line,
Just come up with an all 'NEW' model with 'NEW' name but finally crap out and disappear...
It's simply because they have not fixed the core: It's a POC...

You make a good point, as similarly-equipped, they'll have a similar price
But the lower starting tag will draw more traffic, especially in this class
I'm very interested in seeing if all the new members can match the Fiesta's IIHS Top Safety Pick grade

If you want the 1.8 automatic it will cost another 1070 and for the manual 1.4 turbo another 700
