LAS VEGAS — Return with us now to those days of yesteryear, when pickup trucks ruled the SEMA show floor. At this year's 2009 SEMA Auto Show event, amid a gaggle of retro muscle cars, you'll find the old-school-meets-new-age Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 concept tucked away on the Chevy stand.
Built on an extended-cab/short-box Silverado, the ZR2 features a 550-horsepower supercharged LS crate engine from GM Performance Parts, as well as a 4-inch lift kit, skid plates, BDS shocks and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler MT/R off-road tires mounted on BBS RD wheels.
The ZR2 also sports custom bodywork, notably carbon-fiber fenders and fender flares, extractor hood, rocker extensions and tailgate. A locking storage system and aluminum cargo management system are fitted in the bed.
The carbon-fiber theme continues inside, accenting seats trimmed in black leather and suede with contrasting stitching.
Inside Line says: Chevy says it is considering future production of some components — it won't specify which — from the Silverado ZR2 concept. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
