With rear-wheel drive, a shift-by-wire automanual transmission and V8 power, the Nomad promises the performance of a sports sedan with the utility of an SUV. Other features of the Nomad concept vehicle include suicide-style rear doors, an extendable load floor and a retractable roof.

Styling cues evoke the original 1955 Nomad wagon and Chevrolets of the early 1960s. Inside, second- and third-row seats provide accommodations for up to seven passengers, and fold flat to increase cargo space. The front passenger seat also folds to allow long items to fit inside the vehicle, while the tailgate folds down and powers out of sight for easy loading and unloading.

While strictly a concept study, the Nomad hints at what the future might hold. Judging by the reaction of assembled reporters, Chevrolet should get the concept car federalized and in showrooms as soon as possible.
