DETROIT — General Motors has released the first full exterior photo of its redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, ahead of the car's public unveiling at next week's Shanghai and New York auto shows. GM plans a full reveal of the eighth-generation Malibu in a global webcast Monday night.
GM previously has released several teaser images and videos of the 2013 Malibu, including some interior details.
The exterior shot, of a 2013 Malibu LTZ, shows a strong resemblance between the new car and the current Malibu, which was introduced at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show and went on sale in model year 2008.
The new Malibu will be unveiled live starting at 8:30 p.m. EDT on April 18 on Chevrolet's Facebook page. The Web reveal will also be streamed live on iPad and iPhone mobile devices. GM said the 2013 Malibu also will be shown April 20 at the 2011 New York Auto Show.

From an on paper styling standpoint, I'd rank this in the upper portion of the midsize pack. It's handsome, muscular, but not original. Then again, the leading sellers in this group are some of the most bland and unoriginal designs imaginable.

Isn't this car already out?
It's called Cruze?!?
Duh?
Great move, GM...

I can't wait to rent this on road trips. It's a handsome car indeed and I am sure we will see it in rental fleets across the nation. Not many driveways i'd imagine.

I wish I disliked this car a little more so I could concur with you guys. I do think it is a conservative step in redesign. But is not it what the germans are known for? I don't dislike the current model although I wouldn't buy one. But if a car is not ugly why remake it into something totally different? GM made this car look more muscular and I'm guessing a little wider which is always welcomed. I like how the rear fenders have a curve to them which makes look sportier. If this package comes with better driving dynamics and a solid engine, GM is stepping in the right direction.
p.s. Not all cars can have HID's people, most cars in this segment don't offer them for a rea$on, so you are penalizing the Malibu for..?

The headlamps are slightly too large, but it looks great otherwise.

Actually I think the headlights are also too big as this car visually has a lot more mass than the outgoing model.
NAV system a plus.
YEt to be seen on the handling.

I'll with hold judgement til I see it in person. But as long as it it has an interior on par with Camry and driving refinement like the Accord, its all good.

@ blueguydotcom,
What you say is in great part true but sadly in the America we live at, blandness sells, or why you think the Camry, Accord and Impala are the best selling cars in the US. Don't blame the manufacturers for building what the customer wants to buy.
People now don't want exciting exteriors and powerful engines, they want screens, conectivity and everything else that could distract a driver from the act of driving...
Welcome to the US.

ms_3 was right, the headlights look cheap.
