Chevrolet Malibu Maxx Cross Country Concept
What's Special About It?
In the competitive world of SUVs and crossover vehicles, the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx gets a conceptual makeover to offer up a more rugged, outdoorsy appeal. The Malibu Maxx Cross Country concept vehicle exhibits a restyled hood, fenders, rocker panels and quarter panels in order to attract outdoor enthusiast drivers to this already capable around-town wagon.
But knowing that true enthusiasts will need more than tough-looking aesthetics to take on the wilderness, Chevrolet wisely upgraded key mechanical componentry as well. A specially tuned 240-horsepower, 3.9-liter V6 replaces the Malibu Maxx's standard 3.5-liter engine, which is packaged with a heavy-duty Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission. An upgraded suspension and brake system allow the Cross County to traverse more challenging road surfaces, and 19-inch wheels with performance-oriented tires provide more grip on the pavement.
What's Edmunds' Take?
Chevy's Malibu Maxx is already an unusual-looking vehicle that's difficult to categorize. If beefing up its exterior appearance and available power make it more attractive to consumers outside of Mom's carpool circuit, what's there to lose? Bring on the Chevrolet focus groups. The Cross Country could help the Maxx entice a whole new demographic. — Kelly Toepke
