The Malibu Hybrid comes equipped with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder with electric assist mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid powertrain is rated at 164 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 159 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm. The EPA mileage ratings for this bread-and-butter hybrid sedan are only a bit higher than they are for the standard four-cylinder gas model: 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway for the hybrid, versus 22 and 30 for the gasoline.
Chevrolet said the Malibu Hybrid's standard features include automatic climate control, stability control, 16-inch wheels and a driver information center with hybrid-specific information.
