With only minimal camouflage, it's pretty obvious this HHR Super Sport won't vary much from the standard model. Chevrolet's designers gave it a slightly deeper airdam and a mesh grille up front, but their handiwork pretty much stopped right there, as the rest of the bodywork appears unchanged.
One bright spot is the new wheel design. Measuring 18 inches in diameter, the twin-spoke alloys are some of the best-looking wheels to come from GM in a long time. And we're not just talking Chevrolet either. They're wrapped in 225/45R18 Michelin Pilot HX tires at each corner, so there should be more than enough grip. Expect a typical set of suspension upgrades as well, like stiffer springs and shocks, plus stiffer antiroll bars.
Power will come from the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the current Solstice GXP. With 260 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, the HHR SS should be able to turn a mid-6-second 0-60 time without much trouble. A five-speed manual is the expected transmission, but don't be surprised to see an automatic offered as an option.
No word yet on when this hot-rod HHR will get an official intro, but given how production-ready these units look, it shouldn't be long. Expect to see examples in dealerships sometime this fall.
