- GM's 2010 Chevrolet Express and 2010 GMC Savana are now under recall.
- Approximately 5,000 of the heavy-duty vans are affected.
- The recall is due to a defective alternator.
DETROIT — General Motors is stopping the sale of and recalling about 5,000 heavy-duty Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans because of a defective alternator that could start a fire, the automaker said this weekend.
It is urging owners to "stop driving the vans, park them outside away from buildings and other vehicles, and if possible, disconnect both battery cables," the automaker said in a statement.
The vans were built in February and March of 2010. GM issued a stop sale order on the vans on Friday, which prevents fleet-owned vans from being rented or those on dealer lots from being sold.
GM said only 2500 and 3500 Series vans are affected. Light-duty or half-ton Express and Savana vans use a different alternator.
Inside Line says: If you own one of the aforementioned GM vans, have it checked out ASAP by your dealer and make sure you park it away from your house. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

tomtom55 makes GM looks like they never recall at all. Haha if talks about GM recall I think their totally number are way more than Toyota this time. And you don't learn that through education, you read it through out the years.
GM is on FIRE !!
The thing is GM really thinks their car are a lot safer than Toyota when they offer the incentives to get those stupid Toyota buyer to be even more stupider to buy a GM.

Looks like "every car manufacture" is ready to jump right away on the safety side after what happened to Toyota (before that was business as usual). A tragedy on one of those GM vans would destroy Gov. Motors.

Yes atenza94546, and while your Tundra frame rusts through and drops the spare tire on the highway to smash through the windshield of an unsuspecting driver behind you, you'll laugh at your obvious superiority?! Get educated. Read more of Insideline.

lol oh yea.. Toyota has been hiding this recall from the 05+ models years for the last 10 :/.. wait thats from that fake CNN document! Congrats CNN looks like you got what you wanted. If a 2500 vehicle recall from Toyota made it to national news (their early Tundras).. why doesn't this?

Yah, epic fail - right. No, GM should try and hide the problem for 10 years, let it's customers deal with it, if kills them or not... so they can save money in the short term, oh wait that would be a company with an impeccable reliability record like... Toyota. The fact of the matter is all automotive manufacturers will have recalls (look it up). The true reflection of a manufacturer is how they deal with the problem. At this point GM seems to be doing the right thing. The domestic haters have just had to eat crow. Isn't life strange?
