    Just the Facts:
    • The 40-mpg 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco debuts at the 2010 New York Auto Show.
    • It will arrive in showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2010.
    • Also debuting is the RS appearance package for the Cruze.

NEW YORK — The Chevrolet Cruze Eco, bound for a debut at the 2010 New York Auto Show, will be the stingiest fuel-sipper in the Cruze lineup, the automaker said. The Cruze Eco will arrive in showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Also debuting in the Big Apple is the optional sporty RS appearance package for the Cruze LT and LTZ trim levels.

Chevrolet said the Cruze Eco will deliver an estimated 40 miles per gallon on the highway with the 138-horsepower 1.4-liter Ecotec turbocharged engine linked to the standard six-speed manual transmission.

Exterior details include a lower front grille air shutter that closes at higher speeds to boost aerodynamics and opens at lower speeds to optimize engine-cooling airflow. Also designed to enhance aerodynamics are a rear spoiler, underbody panels and a lower front airdam extension. The Cruze Eco also features a lowered ride height and 17-inch lightweight aluminum wheels.

Chevrolet estimates the Cruze Eco will sprint from zero to 60 mph in about 10 seconds with the manual transmission.

Pricing and final fuel economy numbers will be released closer to launch.

The Cruze RS appearance package includes unique fascias, rocker moldings, rear spoiler and foglamps. The cabin gets an uplevel instrument cluster with chrome accent rings.

So is GM going to actually come out with this car in the U.S. or are they going to continue to sit around and talk about it???  WTF, how many years to we need to look at the 2005 Chevy Cobalt???

Why does GM have to go all "gangsta" with the name? I'd be too embarrassed to tell anyone I bought a "Cruze", even if the car turned out to be decent (yo).

That could be just for the ECO model. I think the Regular 1.4T should get to 60 a tad quicker... I'm wondering too why GM didn't choose the old 2.2l engine. or make a new 1.8-2.0L engine with direct injection and the like?

TurboCharging is nice, but usually it requires extra maintenance such as synethetic oil and premium fuel... Something the average person won't care much for at the pump or when getting an oil change. I like the idea GM is thinking, but maybe not the best idea....

Still, 44mpg highway is nothing to laugh at! Thats very good for US mpg! This car would be a beast with a small turbodiesel! Watchout Vw!

I wonder why they are not considering the 2.2L Ecotec for this car.

If I remember correctly, it is rated at 37mpg highway (Cobalt or G5).

Not bad for a 2.2L, and it would have a better 0-60 time.

Wow, bunch of know-nothing magazine racers are saying an manufacturers estimate of a 0-60 time proves the car is a pig.

    Let's dissect this:

    - The car wasn't actually tested
    - It's a manufacturers estimate, we don't actually know....what if it was 9 seconds?
    - 0-60 times are fairly worthless....what type of tires are on it? How was it launched? Does it require a shift to 3rd (or hell, in this small of an engine, a shift to 4th)?

Get a grip people. It could drive great, or terrible, but only time will tell.

Sounds like the powertrain will be the biggest let down, and European reviews havent been the kindest either. I hope GM isn't counting this (low profit) goose egg, to save them.

that is the eco model so it could be using different gearing, tires, and maybe even slightly different engine tuning. at least i hope the regular car can do 0-60 in around 8 sec or this is gonna be a lame duck, but i still prefer the focus

A 10 second 0-60 is far from quick, but it'll get the job done.  Considering this will be the highest (highway) mpg gasoline car on the market, it seems quite reasonable to me.

kfalch, you CAN'T compare EPA ratings with EU ratings for someone's claimed personal experience.

    Apples and Oranges.

like all GM cars as of late, its gonna be heavy.. hence the 0-60 time of 10 secs. i think my 2009 corolla w/ 130 hp is quicker, with a 5 spd! the lacrosse weighs like 4000 lbs... the equinox/terrain twins are pushing over 4000 lbs.. i dont know why these cars have to weigh so much.
