COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Zenvo Automotive doesn't exactly have the cachet of a Bugatti — or, for that matter, a Corvette. But the Danish company intends for its Zenvo ST1 to join those familiar marques in the supercar pantheon, thanks in part to a highly modified LS7 V8 lifted from the Corvette Z06.
The massive 7.0-liter is being supercharged and turbocharged (hence the initials ST) and tweaked to deliver 1,104 horsepower and 1055 pound-feet of torque — roughly twice the output and torque of the stock LS7 powerplant. Fed through a six-speed manual gearbox and a hydraulic limited-slip diff, the bi-fuel engine is electronically governed to hold top speed to 233 mph, with 0 to 60 mph accomplished in a whisker under 3.0 seconds.
Under the carbon fiber shell is a steel space frame and a double-wishbone suspension with adjustable stabilizer bars and hydraulic shocks, plus 19-inch Michelin performance tires in front and 20s in the rear.
According to Britain's Autocar magazine, Zenvo plans to begin hand-building the first of only 15 cars by the end of the year, with stickers said to start at $1,275,000.
Inside Line says: Gosh, doesn't this make the British Arash AF-10 look a little weak-kneed in a price/performance comparison? — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
