Buyers will be paying a $6,205 premium for the Grand Sport over the base 2009 coupe and $5,360 over the price of the standard Corvette convertible.
"The Corvette Grand Sport achieves a 0-to-60-mph time of less than 4 seconds, pulls 1.0g on the skid pad and still boasts an impressive 26 highway mpg. These numbers are unmatched by any of Corvette's competitors," said Chevrolet Product Marketing Director Karen Rafferty.
The vehicle has the standard 6.2-liter LS3 under the hood, and Chevrolet has an optional two-mode exhaust system that brings power to 436 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque.
Separating the Grand Sport from the normal Vette are wider front and rear fenders, a Z06-style front splitter, functioning brake ducts, unique 18-inch wheels up front and 19-inchers in back, a removable roof for the coupe, a high-performance braking system and recalibrated gear ratios on the manual. A paddle-shift six-speed automatic transmission is also offered, and the suspension is revamped with a new stabilizer bar, shocks and stiffer springs.
This announcement came on the heels of a milestone: Chevrolet's 1,500,000th Corvette rolled off the line at GM's Bowling Green Assembly on May 28.
Inside Line says: Although it's not quite the Z06, the Grand Sport gives the Corvette a subtle new look and a slew of performance modifications. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
