Great Cars for Good Causes: Corvette ZR1 "Hero Edition" and Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

DETROIT/LOS ANGELES — Two hot supercars are an enticing draw to two notable charities. Chevrolet built a special Corvette ZR1 and called it the Hero Edition, putting it up in a raffle for the Kids Wish Network. Meanwhile, Lamborghini auctioned the first U.S.-market Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder to benefit the Race to Erase MS.

The Lamborghini auction took place in Los Angeles last weekend at the 16th annual charity event. The supercar, decked out in the black-and-orange colors of the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis, sold for $270,000, or at least $50,000 above its list price.

The Hero Edition ZR1 — along with a 1967 Corvette roadster painted to match — is the prize in the Win the Vettes Corvette Dream Giveaway. It is decorated in black with red accents, special graphics and carbon-fiber add-ons. A bonus is a red cowl covering the LS9 V8 engine that is visible through the polycarbonate window on the ZR1's hood.

Unlike the Lamborghini, the ZR1 and its '67 Corvette older sibling can be had for a contribution of only $3 — that's the price of a raffle ticket. The drawing will be held on December 23.
