- The Chevrolet Colorado concept truck, which will make its public debut later this month at the Bangkok auto show, previews the next-generation Colorado pickup that will go on sale later this year in Thailand and other markets.
- The new Thai-built Colorado is not expected to be sold in the U.S.
- The next-gen Colorado is expected once again to share its underpinnings with the Isuzu D-Max.
BANGKOK — General Motors is preparing to unveil its next-generation Chevrolet Colorado pickup — in Thailand. The new Colorado, which is teased here, will be revealed later this month in concept form at the 2011 Bangkok Auto Show.
The Asian edition of the Colorado is assembled at GM's Rayong plant in Thailand and shares its underpinnings with the Isuzu D-Max. Although similar conceptually to the U.S. Colorado, it is slightly different in size, with many unique components.
GM has said it plans to close the U.S. Colorado assembly plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, by mid-2012, but U.S. sales of the Colorado and its companion, the GMC Canyon, have plummeted in recent years. No replacement models are planned in the U.S.
Inside Line says: In the meantime, Thailand continues to be a strong market for midsize 1-ton pickups. It will continue to be a battleground for new Asian editions of the Colorado and the Ford Ranger. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Actually, it is confirmed this new Colorado will go on sale here in the US. GM of Thailand is working on the truck and they are modifying for other markets besides the US.
A GMC version will also come too, but that's just a guess.

gosh... give me this with a stout little diesel that lets it get mid 20 mpg and I'll sell my old Z71 for it tomorrow!

When you've got full-size F150 V6s getting 17/23 now and tow rated at 5500lbs standard, AND ecoboost models getting 16/23 with big low end torque, there's not much point in getting a mid-size pickup. GM will have the smaller diesel too available soon.

Well GEE WIZ GM, don't you think sales would've been alot better if you developed some technology for pickup trucks?!?! They get practically the same gas mileage and cost nearly as much as a Silverado. Plus, the Colorado has been largely unchanged since it's 2005 introduction. It's now 2011!!! You did what you do best GM, you came out with a new product and let it go. Now Asia gets the benefit of a Chevy compact pickup.

@ gam2 - True. But people only look 5 ft in front of them. And in front of them is a shiny new huge peterbuilt want-to-be truck.
