The Cobalt XFE gets an EPA-estimated mileage rating of 25 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway, said Chevrolet. The EPA says the 2008 Cobalt with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and a five-speed manual transmission gets 22 mpg in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway.
The Cobalt XFE is equipped with the 2.2-liter DOHC inline-4 Ecotec engine that makes 148 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 152 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm.
"The XFE is not a separate model, so it's the price of the base LS coupe and sedan, which is $14,885 [includes destination of $660] and the 1LT coupe and sedan, $15,595 [including destination]," said Nancy Libby, Chevrolet spokesperson, in an e-mail to Inside Line. "The XFE is what you automatically get when you order with the four-cylinder/five-speed manual." Libby said GM is listing the Cobalt XFE as a 2008i model; The "i" stands for interim.
The Cobalt XFE gets XFE badging on the trunk lid. Standard features include head curtain side-impact airbags, air-conditioning, XM Satellite Radio, AM/FM radio with CD and MP3 playback, a rear defogger and a center console with two power outlets.The Cobalt XFE goes up against the Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.
